Derek (Rick) Neilson is a highly experienced aviation professional with over 40 years in Air Traffic Control (ATC). His background spans procedural and radar control, as well as approach, enroute, and tower operations, supported by extensive supervisory and instructional roles. During his time as an Operational ATC and subsequent career, Derek has more than three decades of experience supporting global Air Traffic Services (ATS) projects.

Derek has led and contributed to major international aviation initiatives across North America and the UK, as well as the Middle East, India, Southeast Asia, and Australia. His project management expertise includes the planning and execution of complex ATM and airspace modernization programs, capacity enhancement initiatives, and safety management system (SMS) audits. He has held project leadership roles for large-scale audits and technical reviews, consistently delivering compliant, well-coordinated outcomes in demanding operational environments.

Known for bridging operational expertise with disciplined project execution, Derek brings clarity and structure to audit environments. His strengths include stakeholder coordination, risk management, audit planning, and developing practical, actionable findings that support continuous improvement.
